Florida Native Plant Society

Lake Beautyberry Chapter of the Society meets at Pilgrims' on Sunday, July 19, 1:30 p.m. with a social and plant exchange. At 2:00 p.m., Peg Urban and our own Peg Lindsay will give a presentation, "Attracting Birds to Your Central Florida Yard."

Also, Pilgrims' is pursuing grants to re-plant with native plants and this meeting will be the first opportunity for Society members to consult and advise Pilgrims' members on what to plant and where.

Members and friends of the congregation are invited to attend this program.

Summer 2009 Music in Worship

Each Sunday in Worship, we feature our talented members who provide "A Gift of Music" as part of their offering. From September to May, we feature our Chancel Choir. But in the summer, we feature solos, duets, quartets, or ensembles of other sizes. Most Sundays, this music is vocal, but sometimes, instrumental.

On Sunday, July 5, and Sunday, September 6, we welcome guest singers, the Village View Gospel Quartet, who call Village View Community Church, Summerfield, home. To read more about this quartet, CLICK HERE.

Open and Affirming (ONA)

Since our founding as a congregation in 1990, Pilgrims' has welcomed and included all persons into every aspect of congregational life and work. We have, in fact, been open to and affirming of LGBT persons and persons in every other category of life. On Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, at a special meeting, the congregation, by a vote of 63-3 formally adopted this statement:

Pilgrims’ United Church of Christ is an Open and Affirming Church that welcomes into full life, leadership, and fellowship all people of all races, genders, ages, sexual orientations, ethnic backgrounds, professions, and mental and physical abilities.

This affirms Pilgrims' identity as an ONA church of the UCC. During a 2-year discernment period, numerous informational and study sessions were held. We were assisted by Rev. Dr. Hal McSwain, our ONA Consultant.
