"To serve Christ and provide a more broad minded and inclusive vision of the Kingdom of God for this area." (from the first issue of Pilgrims' Progress, 1990) This was the goal of the founding ministers, Craig Millet and her husband, David Yohn, who were asked by the UCC to meet the needs of this area. They visited the area and spoke with people who might be interested in becoming involved with a more liberal church. Stanley and Doris Reaves, identified as persons who might be interested, played a large part in spreading the word.

In June 1990, 39 people were listed as interested. September 1, 1990, the church began operation, with the first worship service on Sept. 9 in the building of the Leesburg Seventh Day Adventist Church (which was "home" until November 1993). The church was able to get underway quickly thanks to gifts of Communion Ware, Baptismal Bowl, 100 copies of the Hymnal, and 50 Bibles, all donated by another UCC congregation.

By the time of the first annual meeting in May 1991, the congregation had grown to 63. By the spring of 1993, a building site had been found in Fruitland Park, and purchase was undertaken.

At the annual meeting in March 1995, the congregation chose "the domes" as the building style and voted to proceed with construction of our new home. The cornerstone was laid, February 18, 1996. Our first worship service in our own home was on December 22, 1996; dedication was on January 26, 1997.

Our church family has undergone many changes and growing pains. We have survived--thrived--with God's guidance and support. As we celebrated our 15th anniversary in 2005, we resolved to continue to grow, and continue our work and witness in our community.

In September 2009, we begin year 20 of our history, culminating in the observance of our 20th anniversary in September 2010. Rev. Richard Zulauf, Church Historian, is preparing a full history of our first 20 years. Copies of his work will be made available during year 20. Contact the Church Office for details.
